Jakey Siolo

Pacific Roots, Utah Pride

Jakey Siolo (he/they) is an award-winning Queer Samoan organizer, advocate, and public speaker based in Salt Lake City, Utah. The child of Samoan immigrants, Jakey serves as the Executive Director of the Nuanua Collective, a fully volunteer-run, queer and trans Pasifika-led organization centered on LGBTQ+ Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders. Under his leadership, the collective secured its first funding in 2022 to launch vital monthly programming like healing circles, youth programs, and community events. For this profound grassroots work, Jakey recently accepted the Community Impact Award at the Human Rights Campaign Utah Dinner on behalf of the collective, taking their mission to major national stages, including the White House, Capitol Hill, Harvard University, and Netflix.

Beyond his grassroots organizing, Jakey is an accomplished crisis advocate and public health professional. He serves as the Senior Engagement & Major Gift Officer for YWCA Utah, works as a Case Management Coordinator with Pacific Island Knowledge 2 Action Resources, and coordinates community health at the University of Utah’s School of Medicine. A trauma-informed care facilitator and certified mental health first aider, Jakey is also a certified counselor and trainer for the Utah Coalition Against Sexual Assault and the Utah Domestic Violence Coalition. This frontline work earned him the Advocacy in Action Award from the Utah Office for Victims of Crimes and Governor Cox.

Jakey's extensive background in community leadership includes a Harvard University Oceanic Collections Engagement Fellowship and selection for the Asian Pacific Institute for Congressional Studies National Leadership Academy. Currently serving as Vice Chair for the Salt Lake Central Ninth Youth Prevention Coalition, Jakey continues to combine his personal passions with professional drive to elevate, heal, and empower marginalized communities across Utah.
